Media Day Held to Officially Launch Montclair PEI Golf Classic

* Economic Development [to Jul 1998]
At a news conference held today at Brudenell River Provincial Golf Course, the Montclair PEI Classic was officially launched. This tournament is in the second year of a three-year initiative between the Province of PEI and the Perrier Group of Canada. This year the Canadian Tour event will be hosted at Brudenell from August 27 - September 1. Approximately 140 of the most talented golfers in the world are expected to compete.

"Prince Edward Island's golf product has become a major contributor to the Island economy. In 1995, Montclair's three host courses, The Links at Crowbush Cove, Brudenell and Mill River, reported sales in excess of $2.5 million," said Robert Morrissey, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism. "The Montclair PEI Golf Classic provides Islanders, tourists and visiting golfers with the opportunity to enjoy the Island's quality golf product."

"Perrier is committed to the growth of the Canadian Tour," added Steve Johnston, Sales and Promotion Manager of Perrier Group of Canada Ltd. "The success of the 1995 tournament proves that we made the right choice in having the Montclair PEI Classic as our signature tournament."

Joe Spriet, Chair of the Montclair PEI Classic added, "Without the financial commitment from the title sponsor and other partner sponsors, an event of this calibre is not possible."

The Montclair is the last stop on the Canadian Tour before the Canadian Open in September. It is also the only Canadian Tour event being held in Atlantic Canada.

Along with the Montclair PEI Classic, the week will also consist of a Pro/Am Championship, Corporate Sponsors Day, the Island Tel Mobility Long Drive Competition and other exciting events.

The tournament will be held at the Mill River Provincial Golf Course in 1997.
