Master Packaging Inc. increases production at Island plant

The expansion of a well established Island business will add 20 new jobs to Prince Edward Island’s workforce,” says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“Master Packaging has been a major employer in rural Prince Edward Island for the past 15 years, and I am pleased to see that it continues to grow and expand,” said Premier Ghiz.

Master Packaging Inc. established a sheet plant in Borden-Carleton, Prince Edward Island, in 1996. In 2004, it expanded its operations to include a full-scale folding carton plant.

This latest expansion to the Borden plant will include an upgrade to the finishing equipment used to make folding cartons. The plant currently uses two long-run flexographic presses and one short-run lithographic press to complete orders but has recently found difficulty in meeting customer demands due to the workload capacity of the current finishing machines.

“We have a tremendous team at Master Packaging and as we celebrate our 15th anniversary we are committed to growing our business in the community of Borden,” said Mary-Jean Irving, President and CEO of Master Packaging Inc. “The repayable loan from the Province will position our operations for further growth sooner rather than later. We appreciate the vote of confidence the Province has placed in our skilled people and their dedication to quality products and service to our valued customers.”

The Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, through Prince Edward Island Investment Development Inc., has provided a $2.5 million loan towards the $3.3 million project to purchase production equipment to amplify finished good capacity to the Master Packaging Borden-Carleton plant.
