Marand Engineering Expands Its Operations

Marand Engineering Ltd. has been designing and manufacturing aerospace and industrial systems and components for the past five years. With assistance from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Prince Edward Island Business Development, the company is acquiring new specialized equipment which includes a state-of-the-art CNC Laser Cutting Centre. This will allow it to expand production capacity and processes in sheet metal design and manufacturing.

The Honourable Shawn Murphy, Member of Parliament for Hillsborough, and Wayne Collins, MLA for Winsloe-West Royalty, joined company owners Andrew Hall and Mario VanWiechen today on a tour of Marand Engineering’s facility in the West Royalty Industrial Park.

Supplying “build to print” machined components and assemblies to aerospace companies such as Testori Americas Corp. and Wiebel Aerospace is Marand Engineering’s current primary business. It also provides engineering and consulting services to aerospace and manufacturing companies in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

“Our company has established itself as an effective participant in the aerospace industry. With this new equipment, we will be able to take full advantage of current and future opportunities, expanding both our engineering design and our build-to-print manufacturing business,” said Mr. Hall.

As a result of the expansion, four new year-round technical positions will be added to the company.

“Marand Engineering is a small business which is continually looking to diversify its customer base and enhance its capabilities,” said Mr. Murphy. “ACOA is pleased to support the company’s expansion as it continues to build its reputation for performing high-quality, complex work for a competitive price.”

“This innovative business has developed a niche market here in Prince Edward Island,” said Mr. Collins on behalf of Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. “The provincial government is pleased to support operations that continue to seek out new opportunities, creating employment for the company and Islanders.”

Through its Business Development Program, ACOA is contributing a repayable contribution of $207,500 for the new equipment. Prince Edward Island Business Development contributed $50,000 towards the expansion, while Technology PEI contributed $9,492, to assist with the purchase of CAD/CAM software for the production process.
