The appointment of Jim Campbell to the position of Addictions Services Manager for the Queens Health Region, was announced today by Gordon MacKay, Chief Executive Officer of Queens Region Health.
In his new role, Mr. Campbell will have administrative responsibility for the new Provincial Addictions Centre, as well as all addictions programs and services in the Queens Health Region including the shelter unit, detox unit, rehabilitation services, adolescent services, family services, and the regional recovery homes Lacey and Talbot House.
A resident of Summerside, Mr. Campbell has extensive administrative experience in the education system as a school principal, vice-principal and teacher. As principal of the Kinkora Elementary School Zone of five schools, and Elm Street Elementary School, he was directly involved in the coordination and opening of new school facilities.
He has extensive knowledge and understanding of addictions and related problems, as well as several years clinical experience as a follow-up counsellor with Prince County Addiction Services.
Mr. Campbell holds a Masters in Educational Administration from Dalhousie University and specialty courses in psychology and guidance. He is currently completing his Masters in Social Work program in Community Practice from Dalhousie.
Health and Social Services Minister Mildred Dover advised that Mr. Campbell is highly qualified for the position, "We are confident that through his extensive background in administration, education and counselling along with his excellent interpersonal skills, Mr. Campbell has the balance of knowledge and practical experience required to move our addictions program forward," she said.
The new addictions facility in Mt. Herbert is expected to open within the next few months. Programs now located at the McGill Centre in Charlottetown will be transferred in at that time. New provincial residential services including gambling and women-specific treatment will be phased in later in the year as program development is completed.
