Make Safety a Priority on Canada Day

The Office of Public Safety is reminding Islanders that the display, sale and possession of fireworks is illegal in Prince Edward Island, unless the operator is licenced and has a permit.

“We are aware that fireworks may be purchased in neighbouring provinces, but it is important Islanders know that possessing and discharging fireworks without a license and permit is not legal in PEI,” said David Blacquiere, Provincial Fire Marshal. “We certainly look forward to joyful Canada Day celebrations here in the Birthplace of Confederation, but we want to ensure Islanders make safety a priority and are able to celebrate in a fun and safe manner.”

A fireworks operator must be licensed through Natural Resources Canada and a permit must be obtained from the Fire Marshal’s Office. For more information call 368-4869 or go to www.peipublicsafety.ca (click on "permits" in the resources box).
