The Prince Edward Island Department of Transportation and Public Works will issue tenders for major road and bridge construction on Wednesday that will improve the quality and safety of several of the Island’s busiest roads.

“These improvements demonstrate this government’s commitment to improving highway safety from one end of the Island to the other,” says Minister of Transportation and Public Works Ron MacKinley. “But beyond that, major infrastructure improvements like these provide important economic boosts to Island businesses and to their employees.”

Some of the highlights in this first round of tenders include improvements to 2.0 km of Route 2 in Dingwells Mills, 2.0 km of Route 1 in Belle River, 2.1 km of Route 2 in St. Andrews, 1.7 km of Route 2 in West Devon, 3.0 km of Route 1 in Albany, 1.5 km of Route 2 in New Annan, 3.74 km of Route 315 in Mount Vernon and 3.2 km of Route 107 in Kelvin Grove.

“These tenders represent approximately $10 million in highway infrastructure investment for Islanders, and there are many more to come as we prepare for construction season,” says Minister MacKinley. “The improvements made to these highways will allow for safer and more efficient travel for our primary industries and for everyday Islanders.”
