Premier Pat Binns today announced the appointment of Ron MacMillan, QC as the Deputy Minister of the Department of Community Services and Attorney General.
"Mr. MacMillan is highly regarded in the legal community, has extensive experience in both legal and community work, and I am pleased that he has agreed to join the public service as Deputy Minister," stated Premier Binns.
Mr. MacMillan graduated from the University of New Brunswick Law School in 1975, and practiced in partnership with other law firms before establishing an independent practice in 1995. He is active within the legal community having served as: Chair of Trust Accounts Committee - Law Society of Prince Edward Island; Member of the National Executive of the Canadian Bar Association; Member of the National Planning Committee of the Canadian Bar Association, and presently serves as a Director of the Canadian Transport Lawyers Association.
At the community level, Mr. MacMillan served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Prince Edward Island Heritage Foundation; President of the Alumni Association of Prince Edward Island; Member of the Board of Directors of the Protestant Family Services Bureau; Member of the United Way campaign, and a Coach and volunteer with the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association.
He now serves as a Member of the Board of Governors of the University of Prince Edward Island, Legal Counsel for the Island Division of the Canadian Cancer Society, and is a Member of Session - Zion Presbyterian Church. Ron and Mary have four children, and reside in Charlottetown.
The appointment will be effective August 1, 1999, permitting Mr. MacMillan to make appropriate arrangements with respect to his private practice.
