The Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister responsible for Sport, today offered congratulations to Island communities on a successful summer of hosting national sporting events.
“Over the last three months, Summerside, Charlottetown and Alberton hosted national sporting events attracting athletes, coaches and spectators from across the country to Prince Edward Island,” said Minister MacFadyen. “These events require tremendous efforts by host communities, volunteers and athletes and I am pleased to congratulate these communities on very successful events.”
National sporting events hosted in Prince Edward Island include the National Dart Tournament hosted in Summerside in June; the Cavendish Farms National Pee Wee Baseball Championships hosted by Summerside in August; and, the National Midget Softball Championships jointly hosted by Summerside and Alberton in August. The province also plays host to national, international and regional events throughout the year.
“Sporting events have proven to be a tremendous boost to our tourist traffic as well as important contributors to the economic activity in communities across the province and it is my pleasure to congratulate the communities involved as well as volunteers, organizers, athletes and coaches on another successful sporting summer in Prince Edward Island,” said Minister MacFadyen.
In October, Prince Edward Island will host the National Senior Men’s and Women’s Soccer Championships.
