Love our Lobster campaign underway

Increasing the demand for lobster through retailers, peddlers and food service operators is part of the province’s annual lobster promotion campaign, says Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair.

“The first catches of the season are now being landed and for the third year in a row we are declaring May as Love our Lobster Month to promote our high quality lobsters,” said Minister LeClair.

The vast majority of Island lobster is exported to domestic and international markets and the campaign is designed to encourage Islanders to support the local lobster industry while enjoying a great product.

During the month, radio listeners of Island-wide radio stations K-Rock and Ocean will have chances to win prizes including: lobster dinners from Fishermen’s Wharf, New Glasgow Lobster Suppers and Lobster on the Wharf; home deliveries of cooked lobster by MR Seafoods; a lobster charter on board Top Notch Charters; and a backyard lobster party for 20 people catered by Simple Pleasures and chef Kurtis Ellis. During the month, the stations will also be hosting a weekly interview with representatives from the lobster industry.

“We want Islanders to experience the convenience and variety of Prince Edward Island lobster products and remind consumers that our lobsters are high quality, tasty and nutritious. We want to make lobster a regular part of our eating pleasure,” said Mr. LeClair.
