The corporate sponsors for the Lorie Kane Island Challenge being held at Brudenell Golf Course, August 29 and 30 of this summer, gathered with staff of Tourism PEI to discuss marketing endeavours and the schedule for the tournament today at the Golf Shop and Conference Centre in Brudenell.
Greg Deighan, Minister of Tourism, noted, "I am pleased to advise that planning for the event is well in hand. The amount of corporate support we've received has been outstanding and, as a consequence, the event will be a great success."
The benefits of staging a major golf event such as the Lorie Kane Island Challenge are substantial and far-reaching. Not only will the tournament generate increased tourism spending, but it will also advance Prince Edward Island's reputation as a primary tourism destination.
The Sports Network, TSN, will broadcast the tournament and thousands will see it. Prince Edward Island will be prominently featured during the four-hour, prime-time broadcast. Exposure of this type represents a substantial amount of tourism advertising for Prince Edward Island.
The Lorie Kane Island Challenge will feature Nancy Lopez, Se Ri Pak, Annika Sorenstam and PEI's own Lorie Kane playing for a skins game prize of $225,000. A public concession area called "Mulligan's Landing" is being created for the event that will feature food and beverage, specially designed merchandise and local entertainment. Ticket sales have been brisk with less than 300 still available.
"The Lorie Kane Island Challenge will have a festival atmosphere to it. Spectators at the tournament over the two days will have a great time," said Mr. Deighan.
