Living a Healthy Life sessions offered to Islanders

Health and Wellness
Islanders living with any type of chronic disease can learn how to manage symptoms and make daily tasks easier, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“Living with disease can make everyday activities a challenge and adversely affect a person’s quality of life,” says Minister Currie. “Living a Healthy Life is a fun and practical program that helps people with ongoing health conditions overcome daily challenges and maintain active, fulfilling lives.”

The Living a Healthy Life program offers those with chronic disease - such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, arthritis, heart disease, COPD, asthma and other chronic conditions - the opportunity to learn about healthy eating and exercise, manage symptoms, communicate better and make everyday tasks easier. Caregivers and loved ones are also encouraged to participate in the program.

To date there have been 61 programs held in 21 communities across the province. The two and a half hour group sessions will be held once a week for six weeks in various communities across the Island, beginning on January 6 in Tyne Valley, February 4 in Charlottetown and February 24 in St. Louis. Additional sessions will be scheduled soon for Souris, Stratford, Cornwall and Kensington.

The program costs $10 and participants receive a copy of the book: Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions. For more information or to register, call toll free 1-888-854-7244 or log on to www.peihealthyliving.ca.
