Premier Pat Binns today released the following statement on Remembrance Day.
"Today we celebrate the fact we live in peacetime freedom and we remember those who made it possible.
"I know all Islanders join me in paying respect and tribute to the many Islanders and Canadians who served our country in war; those who gave their lives in such struggles; and the many who today still carry the physical and emotional scars suffered to protect our freedom.
"On November 11, we remember, whether from our history, our family, or from experience the battles that were fought to preserve the principles upon which our society is founded, and the individuals who took part in those battles.
"We remember not only their sacrifice, but the responsibility each of us bears to honour their effort by respecting, protecting and enhancing what their collective effort achieved."
