LESTER Site Wins Pick Of The Week Award

YAHOO! That is what the Department of Education has been saying since LESTER was chosen as one of Yahoo! Canada's Picks of the Week for the week of February 14-21, 1997. The site is now entitled to display the Pick of the Week symbol. The nomination puts LESTER in the running for the coveted Yahoo! Canada Readers' Choice Award.

Yahoo! Canada is a multi-national, categorizing service that provides a subject index of sites available on the Internet. Every week exemplary sites are chosen and suggested to users for viewing.

Links for Educators and Students To Educational Resources, or LESTER as it is better known, is the first, bilingual, government World Wide Web-based educator resource in the Maritime provinces. It can be visited at http://www.gov.pe.ca/educ/lester. What makes the English and French language resource unique is that it is designed for teachers and students, by teachers and students. It also contains resources that are of interest to parents.

LESTER is part of the Department of Education's overall educational technology education plan. "If we are going to successfully integrate technology into curriculum, we must give teachers the necessary tools with which to work," said Education Minister Chester Gillan. "We are extremely pleased that Yahoo! Canada has recognized the value of our site."

The Yahoo! Canada Readers' Choice Award will be given to the site receiving the most votes. You can register your vote at http://www.yahoo.ca/picks. Votes will be counted until 4 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, February 21, 1997.
