May 13, 1996 * Environment [to Apr 1996]Environmental Resources Minister Barry Hicken and Departmental staff met with area MLA Rose Marie MacDonald and the Cardigan Village Council today. Mr. Hicken announced that ‘The Kings County Landfill site will close to domestic and commercial waste effective September 30, 1997.' The Department has commenced the planning and design of a transfer and recycling station, which will see all domestic and commercial waste compacted and transferred off site. Also, effective on that date, waste from all regional container sites will no longer be accepted at this location.
