Kim MacDonald Gallant Receives Government of Prince Edward Island Marine Atlantic Scholarship

* Education [to Apr 2008]
Kimberly Anne MacDonald Gallant of Bedeque is the winner of the 2003 Government of Prince Edward Island Marine Atlantic scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded annually by the provincial government to a student who is entering post-secondary education for the first time and is a dependent of a former Marine Atlantic employee.

Education Minister Chester Gillan advised that the scholarship is an ongoing expression of appreciation to Marine Atlantic employees for the important contribution they made to the Island way of life for 80 years as providers of the Borden-Cape Tormentine ferry service.

"It's a pleasure to present this year's award to Kim Gallant who is a very deserving recipient in many ways," said Minister Gillan. "A mother of three children and a graduate of the Holland College Adult Education Program, she is now embarking on a new learning journey as she begins her Bachelor of Nursing degree at UPEI. A former Marine Atlantic employee herself, Kim's father served for many years as chief engineer of the John Hamilton Grey, and her grandfather as captain of the old Abby."

With the scholarship, Ms. MacDonald Gallant receives the equivalent of full tuition at UPEI for this academic year.

She and her husband, Roger, live in Bedeque with their three children, Jamie Sue, 15; Kandace, 13 ; and Skyler, 11.
