Kensington Library Receives Award

* Education [to Apr 2008]
Kensington's renewed support for its library has been honoured. Deputy Minister of Education Melvin Ostridge presented the Kensington Public Library with the Community Library Award at the Provincial Library Service Annual Awards Ceremony today. Library technician Mary McInnis accepted the award on behalf of the community of Kensington.

In the citation for the award, Harry Holman noted that library use had been declining prior to the creation of the Library Board in late 1995. "The Board realized the value of the library to the community and moved it to the historic train station where increased access and more space has been met with an extremely positive response," said the Provincial Library Service director. "Since the move, circulation has increased, the library has become one of the town's computer access sites and public awareness of the library has been heightened."

The Provincial Library Service (PLS) is a division of the Department of Education.
