Keith Dewar, CEO of Health PEI, accepts position in Saskatchewan

After guiding Health PEI through its creation in July 2010 and spearheading efforts to integrate and improve the way health services are delivered on Prince Edward Island, Keith Dewar, CEO of Health PEI, will be leaving his position for a new challenge.

Dewar has accepted the position of president and CEO of Saskatchewan’s Regina-Qu’Appelle Health Region, with a staff of over 10,000 and a budget just under $1 billion.

“We were lucky to have Keith as CEO at a critical point during the formation of Health PEI,” said Leo Steven, chair of the Health PEI board of directors. “Keith has accomplished difficult work in this key role, which has given us an excellent foundation and a solid strategic direction with which to further improve the health services we provide to islanders.”

For Dewar, the decision to leave was a difficult one.

“Time and again we’ve seen that the direction that Health PEI has taken is the right one, and it will continue after I’ve left,” he said. “The quality of the dedicated staff and physicians we have at Health PEI will help attract even more talented individuals who will be eager to help take Health PEI to the next level.”

“Although Keith will not be leaving his post for several weeks, the recruitment process for a new CEO will commence immediately by the Health PEI board,” Steven said. “Until a permanent replacement has been found, Dr. Richard Wedge will fill the position of acting CEO.”
