June Is Amnesty Month At Confederation Centre Public Library

* Education [to Apr 2008]
Do you have any books that are long overdue ... so far overdue that you are reluctant to return them or even admit it?

Now is the time to bring them back, restore your library privileges and clear your conscience!

June has been declared AMNESTY Month at the Confederation Centre Public Library. Charges for overdue books will not apply during AMNESTY Month and the return of materials in good condition will cancel any charges owed for replacement costs.

"Overdue books are valuable resources which are of use to many people," says Don Scott, Chief Librarian, Confederation Centre Public Library. "In some instances patrons have requests on books and are awaiting their return. We would like to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to enjoy the library's books and materials."

The June AMNESTY will take place because of the new computerized library management system being implemented. This system will allow library patrons to search for information by computer, to quickly review which books are in the collection, where they are in the province and if they are currently available.

An important step in establishing this system has been the verifying and bar coding of library inventory. Most of this work has been completed. Now the final stage in the process, clearing out all records of lost or overdue materials, must take place.

"The new computerized library system will provide a better level of service to Islanders province-wide," says Scott. "What we need now is for people to return their overdue books and materials so others have the chance to enjoy them and we have the opportunity to enter them back into the system."

Overdue books and materials may be returned to any library in the provincial library system without penalty during the month of June.
