Eleven new youth IT clubs have been selected to receive grants of $2300 each to provide information technology tools for their clubs. The IT Generation program focuses on providing the means for youth to spread information about issues of interest to them.
In the second round of funding, the following 11 community organizations have been selected to be part of IT Generation:
Carrefour Club TIC, Westisle Yearbook and Outlet Committees, The Adventures in Learning Club (The Adventure Group), BG Club (Charlottetown Boys & Girls Club), The Web Group (Montague Consolidated), Kensington & Area Teen IT Club, Generation Exploration (Summerside Boys & Girls Club), ACL Youth Group Computer Club (PEI Association for Community Living), YES IT (KenNet Inc.), Fortune-Rollo Bay Youth Club, and Allied Youth Generation 2000 (Mount Stewart).
The IT Generation program is open to community groups across the province. Criteria for participants applying include the presence of a strong board of directors, a strong commitment to youth, and easy community access. The youth IT clubs should be set up in community locations where youth gather for activities and to exchange ideas. The program is open to both new and existing groups. Funds received by the organizations will be used for the purchase of hardware or software.
Applications are judged in a competitive process. Digital Innovations, (Level II CAP Site in Tignish) is delivering the program on behalf of Technology PEI.
