Two members of the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention (PAC), have recently been honoured as joint recipients of the prestigious Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation Award, says Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Community Services and Seniors.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to both Dr. Philip Smith and Sigrid Rolfe for their leadership and years of work to prevent and eliminate family violence in Prince Edward Island,” said Minister Docherty. “Dr. Smith’s leadership and commitment in the prevention and elimination of family violence has spanned his career as he has worked as a tireless advocate to advance issues to improve the lives of children and families. Ms. Rolfe continues to work passionately to address family and sexual violence.”
The Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation Award was established in 1992 to recognize an outstanding individual, group, organization, business, corporation or workplace that has contributed to the prevention and elimination of family violence in Canada.
Dr. Philip Smith is a professor of psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island and currently serves as Chair and Member at Large of the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention (PAC). Sigrid Rolfe is the coordinator of the P.E.I. Rape and Sexual Assault Centre and serves as the Centre’s representative on PAC.
“The determination and persistence that both Dr. Smith and Ms. Rolfe have devoted to improving the lives of others has significantly contributed to the well-being of Island families, and I am so pleased that they have been recognized for the work that they do,” said Minister Docherty.
