Islanders invited to Provincial Forest Fall Frolic

Communities, Land and Environment
The 16th annual Provincial Forest Fall Frolic will happen Saturday, October 10 at the New Harmony Demonstration Woodlot near Souris, said Minister of Communities, Land and Environment Robert Mitchell.

“Prince Edward Island’s rolling hills provide a challenging and beautiful location for a cross-country foot race and the forested lands and red dirt roads of the Souris area will be a great backdrop for this annual event,” said Minister Mitchell.

Since its inception in 1999, the Fall Frolic has become a featured event on the Island’s annual running calendar, attracting runners from across the Maritimes. The Fall Frolic cross-country run is a joint partnership between the PEI Roadrunners Club and the Department of Communities, Land and Environment.

The event features a challenging 12.3 km cross-country run that features forested trails and scenic backcountry roads set amid the rolling hills north of Souris. The day also features a 4.6 kilometre family-oriented event for casual runners and walkers.

Over the past 15 years, all money raised through entry fees has been donated to MacIntyre House, a non-profit group home located in Souris. MacIntyre House provides a caring home environment for adult men with intellectual disabilities.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with both runs beginning at 10 a.m. Entry fee is $15 per person with a barbeque and a door prize draw will be held after the run. For more information call the Eastern Forest District office at 902-961-7296.
