Islanders invited to comment on climate change document

Communities, Land and Environment

Input from Islanders is needed to help develop the provincial government’s plan for mitigating the effects of climate change.

The public is invited to provide anonymous feedback on a new discussion paper titled “Recommendations for the Development of a 2016 Climate Change Mitigation Strategy” available online at https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/service/climate-change-mitigation-strategy-public-consultation, until Thursday, November 10. In-person consultations will take place next month to discuss the recommendations outlined in the document.

“Prince Edward Island is one of the most vulnerable regions in Canada to the effects of climate change. A Climate Change Mitigation Strategy will ensure we all do our part when it comes to mitigating the impacts of a changing climate by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions,” Communities, Land and Environment Minister Robert Mitchell said.

Government is working on three strategies to help combat climate change: the P.E.I. Energy Strategy, P.E.I. Climate Change Mitigation Strategy, and P.E.I. Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.
