All Islanders are invited to celebrate Islander Day at the province’s winter activity parks, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Henderson.
“Islander Day is a great time to spend with family and friends,” said the minister. “Our provincial parks are a great way to get outdoors and enjoy some fun winter activities.”
In celebration of Islander Day, Monday, February 20, Brookvale will offer a two-for-one special on all alpine passes and rentals. All Islanders are encouraged to bring a friend and check out the new carpet lift.
Mill River Provincial Park has a full day of activities planned for Islander Day, presented by the park, Holland College Sport and Leisure Management students, and Rodd’s Mill River Resort. The fun day will cost $5 per person:
11 a.m. ~ Ski clinic
12:30 - 4:30 p.m. ~ Horse and sleigh rides
1 p.m. ~ Winter amazing race
2:30 p.m. ~ Sled races
3 p.m. ~ Snow soccer game
3:30 p.m. ~ Snow shaping
5 p.m. ~ Disc skate with prizes
6-7 p.m. ~ Bonfire/hot chocolate/marshmallows
8 a.m. - 8 p.m. ~ Rodd Mill River pool
9 a.m. - 1 p.m. ~ Bounce room/face painting

New Brookvale Carpet Lift [video link]
Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson and Minister of Community Services and Seniors and MLA of Kellys Cross - Cumberland Valerie Docherty spoke about Brookvale Ski Park as a fun and exciting recreation destination for Islanders. Volunteer Shelley MacEwan also spoke about the benefits of the new carpet lift, which allows inexperienced skiers and skiers with disabilities to safely access the bunny hill.
