ISLAND SIMMENTALS DO WELL AT ROYAL WINTER FAIR

* Agriculture and Forestry [to May 2015]
When Islanders enter the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair they will most likely hear the voice of livestock show announcer Trevor MacDonald of Murray River, Prince Edward Island who once again is announcing the results and directing the activity for several of the beef breeds and the 4-H beef show at the Fair.

In his capable way he has become a part of the show that requires attention to detail and the ability to juggle the action going on simultaneously in two show rings as he informs the public of the results.

MacDonald took the time to note the absence of a familiar face at ringside in the person of Cecil Godfrey, who for the first time since 1967 was not able to attend the current show as he continues his recovery from a serious accident earlier this year.

Exhibitors from Prince Edward Island certainly made their presence known in the Simmental classes at the Royal Show.

Randy Sanderson, Cornwall, took a fifth with Spud Island Sue 90S in one of the four splits of yearling Simmental heifer classes. He also took a seventh in another with Spud Island Sandi 79S.

Supporters watched intently as he went on to scoop up a first prize ribbon with Spud Island MS Zodiac 160P in the mature cow and calf class.

In the yearling bull class, Sanderson took a second placing with Spud Island Smoker 103S who moved on to be named the Reserve Junior Champion Simmental bull.

Wayne Crosby, New Haven, received the Reserve Senior Champion Simmental female rosette and went on to take the Reserve Grand Champion Female banner with his recently purchased Ultra Temp Jasmine 28R in the Two Year Old Cow with calf section.

In the Charolais ring, Havenview Charolais, owned by Wayne Crosby took a fifth in a three way split class of January-February 2007 heifer calves with Crosby’s Trixie 711T.

In the January-March 2006 heifer class, he went on to grab a sixth with Crosby’s Sassy Sally 611S in one of the four splits and moved up to take a third in another split with Crosby’s Sasha 604S.
