A delegation of Prince Edward Island seafood companies will be participating in the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels April 27-29. The exposition is the largest seafood fair in the world, attracting buyers and sellers from more than 140 countries. Over 1,600 exhibitors will be featured during the exposition.
”The European Seafood Exposition is an excellent opportunity to showcase and market seafood products and processing equipment from Prince Edward Island,” said Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair. “Seafood products from this province rank among the best in the world, and the exposition will enable us to demonstrate that high quality and value to international markets.”
Prince Edward Island companies attending the exposition include Atlantic Aqua Farms, Minigoo Fisheries, BJ Trading & Marketing, Charlottetown Metal Products and Ocean Choice International. Innovation PEI is coordinating the Prince Edward Island presence at the seafood show and a representative from the Department of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development will be assisting at the exposition and meeting with key trade commissioners from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and other markets of interest.
Minister LeClair said there is a need to diversify and expand markets in other countries around the world. “Expanding markets for our products and gaining greater returns from the marketplace is a key goal of my department,” he said.
There is significant potential to expand exports into the European and other markets. The province has been actively promoting Prince Edward Island seafood products in domestic and international markets and supporting the development of new products.
