Provincial Treasurer Patricia Mella today officially opened the new location of Island Information Service. "Sourcing information about provincial government programs and publications is now much easier for the public," said Mrs. Mella. Island Information Service, a store-front type of operation, has relocated to the first floor of the Jones Building in the provincial administration building complex on Kent Street in Charlottetown.
"The centre responds to requests, in English or French, for information on government programs and services, provincial acts, reports, information brochures and provides general information about Prince Edward Island to students and people wishing to move here or relocate their business to the Island, said Mrs. Mella."
Island Information Service is a bookstore for provincial government publications including the PEI Speech from the Throne, provincial budget, annual reports and the sale of government acts and regulations. A new feature at the centre is the addition of two public access computer work stations featuring direct access to the Internet.
The centre is also responsible for the distribution of provincial government news releases to the media, other governments, libraries, freelance writers and other interested parties; operation and maintenance of the government's Internal Information Service; and support to departments by maintaining and publishing the provincial government telephone listings, Government Services Directory and the Quick Reference Guide.
Island Information Service is open to the public during business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is located at 11 Kent Street, J. Walter Jones Building, first floor. Contact the centre by telephone: 1-800-236-5196 or 368-4000; facsimile: 368-5544; or by E-mail: island@gov.pe.ca
