August 15, 2016 Communities, Land and EnvironmentPrince Edward Island forest firefighters have been dispatched to Nova Scotia to assist with the fire situation, says Minister of Communities, Land and Environment Robert Mitchell. “On Friday, five staff from the Department of Communities, Land and Environment left to assist with the Nova Scotia fires,” said Minister Mitchell. “At this time we expect they will be posted in the southern area of the province for a minimum period of one week up to a period of two weeks, or until conditions improve.” Staff persons were dispatched to Seven Mile Lake in Annapolis County. This fire is reported to have broken out on Thursday, August 4. Staff will stay at a campground in Caledonia while assisting with the fires. The last report stated the fire has grown to more than 976 acres.“On behalf of all Islanders, I wish our staff a safe and effective firefighting experience while they assist our neighbours in Nova Scotia,” added Mitchell.Media Contact: Amber Nicholson
