This week, Island Focus centres its attention on the value of lifelong learning with stories of personal satisfaction and enhanced job and career opportunities.
"As a province, we place a high value on lifelong learning opportunities," said Honourable Jeffrey E. Lantz, Minister of Education. "By supporting and encouraging a learning culture in this province, we can all benefit from increased opportunities in our personal and professional lives."
Island Focus is the provincial government's community outreach television program featuring the people, places and programs of Prince Edward Island. The March 27 broadcast will focus on new approaches in workplace education at Durabelt Inc. and Diversified Metal Engineering; share the story of registered nurses who have developed a program to enhance the social skills of students with special educational needs; explore skills training opportunities in the tourism industry; and look at the "Little Expressions" program in Southern and Eastern Kings. Host Gerry Birt will be on location at the PEI Institute of Adult and Community Education to discuss learning opportunities for adults who have not completed high school with Barbara Macnutt, GED administrator with Department of Education. Later in the program, viewers will meet Anne Marie Peters of Souris who successfully completed her GED exam earlier this year.
"The stories featured on the program this week illustrate that learning takes places in many different places and in many different ways," said Minister Lantz. "It is important to celebrate our learning successes and continue to pursue learning opportunities at all stages of our lives."
