Island Company Chosen As Finalist At Baddeck International New Media Festival

The Baddeck International New Media Festival & Awards, taking place from October 19-21 in Baddeck, Nova Scotia, recognizes and celebrates the achievements and creative talents of new media professionals. The Festival brings together creators, buyers, and sellers of new media content from around the globe.

Since its inception in 1997, the event has doubled in size, attracting delegates with hot new media companies from across Canada and around the world. This year the festival is being recognized as an international event, with the primary focus on content.

For the first time, an Island company has been chosen as a finalist for a New Media Award at Baddeck. The L.M. Montgomery Institute has produced a CD-ROM entitled "The Bend in the Road, An Invitation to the World and Work of L.M. Montgomery." For Project Director and writer Deirdrie Kessler and her team, it is an honour to be chosen as a finalist in a competition that encompasses work from across Canada and Internationally.

The Honourable Michael F. Currie, Minister responsible for Technology PEI, feels this international event is an excellent opportunity for new media professionals to network with buyers, sellers and content providers.

"The educational opportunities at Baddeck are phenomenal, with seminars touching on content, creativity, technology and business issues," said Minister Currie. "The Festival provides a forum to learn about the changing trends in the new media industry. It is encouraging for Prince Edward Island to have so many of our Island new media companies represented at the Festival. It's not every day that a group of such creative and business oriented individuals get together to discuss new media opportunities."

Technology PEI provides a leadership role in the development, use and adoption of technology for business and community in Prince Edward Island. It is the lead agency for development in the film, television and new media industries in Prince Edward Island.
