Prince Edward Island 4-H members turned in a strong showing during the 29th annual Canadian Classic Junior Dairy Show at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto during the past weekend. The show featured 358 of Canada’s top dairy youth between the ages of 12 and 21 from 52 teams representing eight provinces. The teams worked together to produce top quality displays and compete in showmanship classes with their dairy calves.

Members of the Prince Edward Island 4-H team participated in the conformation classes, which included 50 to 104 calves. Jillian Tweedy placed 8th in the Intermediate Holstein Calf class, and Katelyn Tweedy placed 11th. In the Senior Calf class, Susan Frizzell won the 7th spot, and Kyle VanderKloet was 16th. Ashley Profitt’s entry was 23rd in the Summer Yearling class, and Kyle Jewell’s entry placed 20th in the Junior Yearling class.

The Island 4-H team was selected into the final 15 group from among the 52 teams represented. It also had a strong showing in the competition for best exhibit, being placed in the top third.

The Classic show is an opportunity for Canada’s dairy youth to showcase their talents and join with other 4-H members at a world class event.
