Prince Edward Island is open for business and, through the Invest PEI partnership, all three levels of government are working together to attract foreign investment to the province.
Invest PEI is a new initiative designed to create awareness of PEI as an ideal business location through targeted investor meetings, a consolidated Web site, networking events and coordinated marketing materials with a common logo.
"In KPMG's Competitive Alternatives study that compares business costs in North America, Japan and Europe, Canada continues to rank on top as the profitable place for companies to set-up or expand. Atlantic Canada offers even further cost advantages," said Joe McGuire, Member of Parliament for Egmont, on behalf of the Honourable Gerry Byrne, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). "Invest PEI operates on the philosophy that working together we can achieve positive results which benefit the PEI economy."
Invest PEI's working group consists of representatives from ACOA, PEI Business Development, Technology PEI, Industry Canada, Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada, City of Charlottetown, City of Summerside, Federation of PEI Municipalities, Charlottetown Area Development Corporation and the Summerside Area Development Corporation.
"The province is working to diversify its economy and attract new business on an ongoing basis," said the Honourable Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "Typically, direct-foreign investment involves innovative companies that employ knowledge-based workers at attractive wage rates. This is the type of investment we are striving for with the Invest PEI partnership."
The Invest PEI brand presents potential investors with coordinated, one-stop access to information, programs and services.
"Invest PEI promotes PEI as a whole and works collaboratively to provide a unified voice for strategic investment in the province which allows us to open doors and attract investment," said Mike Thususka, economic development officer, City of Summerside.
Invest PEI recently hosted a group of site selectors from the United States who were touring the Atlantic region and participated in the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) conference in Summerside. Site selector consultants help businesses looking to locate or expand find the most favourable location.
