The Disability Advisory Council has created the Champion for Inclusion Award to recognize those who promote opportunities for persons with disabilities, says Minister of Family and Human Services Doug Currie.
“This year’s recipients were all nominated by the ACT Theatre group and exemplify inclusion in the work they do.,” said Minister Currie. “I am proud to announce the recipients today, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.”
The first ever Champion for Inclusion Awards recipients are Tony Welsh, Ellen Carol and Paul Whalen. The Advisory Council created the Champion for Inclusion Awards to recognize those who demonstrate strong community leadership in supporting and promoting inclusion for persons with disabilities through their employment, volunteer work, or in their daily lives.
“Our communities are much better off when everyone is able to contribute,” said Minister Currie. “Giving those who may not have the opportunity to develop and utilize their creative, artistic and intellectual potential not only benefits the individual, but helps to enrich our society as a whole.”
