The Inn Chef, TV's newest cooking show and a sure fire hit, will air the first of its 26 half-hour episodes next Tuesday, September 22, on Life Network. Shot primarily on Prince Edward Island, series Chef and Host Michael Smith captures the essence of fine cuisine using everyday ingredients. He will charm and lead the audience through each episode as he focuses on that day's specialty.
A "live" cooking segment in the inn's actual kitchen is accompanied by a trip to the garden, where the featured herb is explored both in its lore and gardening tips. Then it is off for a visit to a local produce provider. These personalities take Chef Michael through the care and process of growing a superior product. Shot at the Inn at Bay Fortune, and various other locations around Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, this television show distinguishes itself from anything else ever seen on TV.
Chef Michael is pleased with The Inn Chef. "My motto is simple. I use whatever I get from the local providers of the Island, and that is what defines my menu for the day. It is all about the simplicity of great ingredients, the respect with which I treat them and the sharing that follows," says Chef Michael.
"We were fascinated from the beginning. Michael Smith is extremely creative, a true artist. He loves what he does and you can tell on this show. Each show, not only teaches you how to cook an amazing dish, simply, but also teaches you all about food. They are like mini documentaries. Our intention is to sell this show worldwide. It has
everything that the international market place is looking for," say co-producers Gretha Rose (Cellar Door Productions) and Johanna Eliot (Ocean Entertainment). The locations are fabulous. The dining room and accommodations at the Inn at Bay Fortune are heralded among the top 10 restaurant/inns in Canada. The Inn has an amazing history. It was the site where Elmer Harris wrote the world famous play Johnny Belinda and former summer retreat for actors George C. Scott and Colleen Dewhurst.
The Inn Chef is a co-production between Cellar Door Productions of Charlottetown, PEI, and Ocean Entertainment of Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is produced with the participation of the PEI provincial government, through Enterprise PEI; the Nova Scotia Development Corporation; and Life Network.
"This is a fine example of the growing film and television industry on Prince Edward Island," said Don MacKinnon, Minister of Development. "In addition to showcasing the beauty of the various locations featured on this series, the show also provides many economic spin-offs to the participating communities."
The Inn Chef airs on Life Network, beginning September 22, every Tuesday at 7:30 am and 5:30 pm, and Sundays at 12:30 pm and 4:30 am (Eastern time). For more information visit INNCHEF.COM
