Prince Edward Island Agriculture Minister George Webster today announced an information session will be offered to help producers deal with business risks. The Department of Agriculture, in partnership with the Federation of Agriculture, is holding an information session with John DePutter on Thursday, August 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the New London Community Center. Mr DePutter will speak on business risk management and understanding farm finances.
“Producers across Prince Edward Island face a variety of risks as they go about the business of growing food and other agriculture products,” said Mr. Webster. “These risks include production, financial and market risks. The best way to deal with each is to anticipate them and put in place a plan of action. There are federal and provincial programs in place to help deal with each of these risks.”
Some of the topics to be covered in DePutter’s presentation are strategies to deal with business risks associated with finances, commodity markets and balancing risk management with profit optimization. He will also discuss the identification of key global and domestic market trends and influences.
John DePutter and his company, DePutter Publishing, have been supplying risk management tools and market information to farmers across Canada since 1981. The company has also been delivering a morning market driven e-newsletter to Ontario farmers for a number of years.
Funding for this information session is provided under the Growing Forward Program, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.
