Indian River Festival Receives Tourism Funding

Mitch Murphy, MLA for Kensington-Malpeque was pleased to present, on behalf of Tourism Minister Greg Deighan, a cheque in the amount of $15,000 to Jim Blanchard, Board Member of the Indian River Festival.

"The Tourism Investment Fund is a strategic initiative of the Provincial government which allows organizations like the Indian River Festival to continue to grow and flourish" said Mr. Murphy. "This assistance is well appreciated and will certainly enable the Festival to build on its growing reputation as a unique and world class event."

The Indian River Festival commenced in 1997 mainly as a fund raiser to help restore beautiful St. Mary's church. While the Festival is blessed with many benefactors, it has really been a core group of volunteers that have nurtured it into a premier summer tourism destination.

The acoustically distinctive architecture of St. Mary's church has drawn high praise from all who have performed and the appreciation of the Festival's audiences.

The Indian River Festival opens for its 2002 season on Sunday, July 7, 2002.
