Voting at the second Advance Polls on Monday, October 27 was steady at all the municipalities of Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall. Summerside and Cornwall continue to see increases in voter turnout compared to the 2010 Municipal Election Advance Poll. Charlottetown had a decrease in voter turnout for the second Advance but their total numbers remain higher than previous elections. Stratford continues to have lower voter turnout but, with only two of three Wards having elections and the Mayor being acclaimed, this is to be expected.
“Our election workers remained steady all day,” states Chief Electoral Officer Gary McLeod. “The total number of persons who voted in the Advance voting is up from previous elections with the exception of Stratford.” Stratford’s Mayor and Councillors from Ward 3 were elected by acclamation. “We continue to encourage people to vote in this election and congratulate all the candidates for putting their name forward in this election,” states McLeod. There is one more Advance Polling date on Saturday, November 1, with Election Day being Monday, November 3. All polls are open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
