A new state-of-the-art visitor information centre equipped with the latest technologies will make it easier for travelers to the Charlottetown Airport to receive instant, up-to-date tourism information at any time, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.

“This new visitor information centre at the Charlottetown Airport will better meet the needs of visitors to our province through easy-to-use, touch-screen monitors,” said the minister. “More and more visitors are relying on technology to help them plan their trip and we want to make it as easy as possible for visitors to get the information they require to plan their visit on Prince Edward Island.”

The newly designed information centre features 18 large flat screen monitors displaying videos of Prince Edward Island’s key tourism features, including golf, culture, culinary and upcoming events. In addition, there are six large tables with touch-screen monitors built into the top of them. This technology will give visitors access to travel information 24 hours a day.

Visitors can access a wide range of information services – from booking accommodations to searching for events in a particular region – by navigating the touch screens. A vacation planner will still be available on-site to answer any additional questions travellers may have.

“The Charlottetown Airport Authority is extremely pleased to partner with the Province of Prince Edward Island on this new, state-of-the-art visitor information centre. In the coming months we will begin a major renovation and expansion to the departures area of the Air Terminal Building and this enhancement for arriving passengers is a good complement to that project,” said Charlottetown Airport Authority CEO Doug Newson. “This new information centre will provide an impressive welcome and experience as visitors begin their vacation on Prince Edward Island.”

Nearly 300,000 passengers go through the airport each year. Since 2001, traffic at the airport has grown by 64 per cent. The airport contributes more than $90 million to the Prince Edward Island economy and is responsible for more than 745 direct and indirect jobs.
