October 31, 2001 Premier's OfficePremier Pat Binns announced today that he has requested the Speaker to convene the Prince Edward Island Legislative Assembly on Thursday, November 15, 2001. The third session of the 61st General Assembly will begin at 3 pm with the reading of the Speech from the Throne by the Honourable LĂ©once Bernard, Lieutenant Governor. The Throne Speech will outline government's legislative and policy agenda for the coming year. The Premier indicated that this Session of the House would be an important one. "Government will bring forward a number of important legislative proposals for the consideration of Members, and I fully expect this session to be a very productive one," stated the Premier. The upcoming sitting of the House represents a continuation of the Binns government's commitment to two sittings of the House annually. "In 1996, we implemented a schedule of two House sittings each year because we want the business of government to be directed by the Legislative Assembly and not in isolation from Islanders," said Binns.Media Contact: Patrick Dorsey
