Hog Board Seeking Off-Island Markets

* Agriculture and Forestry [to May 2015]
As a result of the instability in the hog industry, the Prince Edward Island Hog Commodity Marketing Board has begun to pursue off-Island markets for hogs.

In a statement issued today, the board said it is anticipated that hogs may begin to leave Prince Edward Island within the next few weeks.

The board said it regrets making this decision, but feels it is the most viable and stable option to ensure producers have a market for their hogs. It said every attempt is being made to stabilize the industry and ensure long-term marketing options are in place.
