Technology PEI will showcase the history of the Island's agricultural exhibitions, festivals and fairs with a new program called OnLine Communities Showcase. Every year communities across the province celebrate their lives and spirit through agricultural displays, concerts, lobster suppers, and boat races. These and other events are annual celebrations – rich with history that can easily be lost.
This year, for the first time, Technology PEI will provide a funding competition for festival committees. Groups can receive grants of up to a maximum of $2,000 to create a Web site about the history of their particular festival or event. The money will be used to hire a web developer to put the history online.
"Sometimes the best way to introduce people to technology is through something they're really interested in," said Mike Currie, Minister of Development and Technology. "The Web sites will give visitors to these events a chance to learn more about their history but also to learn more about technology," he said.
The Web sites will be available for viewing at the events at a kiosk with a touch-screen computer. The kiosk will be provided and staffed by Technology PEI.
Applications for funding will be accepted and evaluated upon receipt, with a final submission deadline of Monday, June 30, at 3 p.m.
Applications are available online at www.techpei.com or by contacting Pam Mackenzie at 902-368-6337 or by email at pamackenzie@gov.pe.ca.
Technology PEI is the Government of Prince Edward Island's lead agency in the development, adoption and use of information technologies in business and community in the province.
