September 7, 2004 * Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]The Department of Transportation and Public Works today issued an advisory to the traveling public about upcoming highway reconstruction work along a section of Route 2. Beginning September 7th and running through until the end of September, a section of Route 2 in West Devon will be under construction. This area of roadway will see the removal and replacement of two box culverts currently nearing the end of their life expectancy. “Across the Island there are more and more structures which are nearing the end of their expected life, and projects like this will become much more common as we deal with the fact that much of our bridge inventory was constructed in the 1960's and 1970's,” said Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea. During the construction period, traffic will be reduced to one lane for a period of approximately three weeks. Light vehicle traffic is encouraged to use an alternate route during that time. The value of the project is approximately $500,000. Shea also advised that motorists should approach this area with caution and obey all traffic control personnel on site during the construction period. Shea thanked the public for their cooperation.Media Contact: Jeff Himelman
