Hon. Mildred Dover, Minister of Health and Social Services, announced today in the Legislative Assembly the forthcoming move of some health sector staff.
"The recent announcement of the establishment of the new Atlantic Tourism and Hospitality Institute on Havilland Street on the Charlottetown waterfront means that several health sector operations must be relocated. The new Institute will generate very substantial economic impacts for the Charlottetown area," said Ms. Dover.
Staff in the previous Charlottetown Hospital School of Nursing building will be moving in mid-April to the Riverview Business Centre on Garfield Street. Staff in the MacMillan Building will be relocating to the Ellis-Birt Complex in Sherwood.
A front counter service for Vital Statistics will be established at the Garfield Street location. Further to planning which has been underway since 1994, program administration for Vital Statistics will be relocated to the government-owned Montague Health and Community Services office which houses other core administrative services. Three Vital Statistics staff will be located in Montague and one at the Garfield Street location.
The new Atlantic Tourism and Hospitality Institute is expected to house up to six hundred students, and generate substantial economic impact in the Charlottetown area.
"We are most pleased to be able to cooperate with Holland College in making this site available for this tremendous economic development initiative for the City of Charlottetown," said Ms. Dover.
