This Friday and Saturday, May 21 - 22, the 10th Annual Wine Festival at the Delta Prince Edward will feature wines from some of the leading wineries and wine producing countries in the world.
For those attending the wine show for the first time, here are a few suggestions that may help you enjoy the Festival to the fullest. In a room of more than 170 wines to sample, a “taste as many as I can” strategy simply does not work. A group of four to six people is ideal for a tasting of this size, because they can separate into groups of two or three each with assigned wines to taste. After the first hour, you might wish to meet at an appointed table and offer your recommendations. This works well if you select people who are fond of one varietal and can scout the room for the best Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay , Pinot Grigio or Shiraz. You may be in charge of Chardonnay for your group, but a friendly wine agent may offer you a Sauvignon Blanc never before presented in this region but available only Friday or Saturday.
Before You Go
Eat a good carbohydrate-laden meal, nothing too spicy because you will need your taste buds to work for you. Since you will be standing for three to four hours, it may be more practical to wear comfortable footwear. Remember you will be clutching a wineglass and a program, take this into consideration. A pen or pencil is a must for noting your favourite wines and booth locations.
Tasting sessions are Friday evening at the Delta Prince Edward from 6:00 -10:00 and Saturday evening from 4:00 - 8:00. The Wine Boutique is open Friday 1:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. All wines are at a 15% discount.
Silent Auction Aids Island Hospice
This weekend's Wine Festival also includes an expanded list of splendid Silent Auction items in addition to an Art Exhibit with works by some of PEI’s finest artists. All proceeds from the Silent Auction go to the Island Hospice Association. As was the case last year, half the Silent Auction items will be offered the first night and the remaining ones on Saturday evening. This will enable those in attendance to participate in the fun event which is the major fund raiser for the Island Hospice. Bids close approximately half-hour prior to end of the tasting session. Silent Auction items are on display throughout the Show.
To help us celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the PEI Wine Festival, Jackson Triggs Wines has kindly donated a trip for two , two nights accommodations in Ontario, car rental, and a Jackson Triggs Winery Tour to the holder of the winning ticket at Saturday night’s draw.
A limited number of tickets are still available for the Gala Dinner on Saturday evening. For further information on the dinner call The Delta (902-894-1296).
