Young people in St. Edwards and area will soon have a youth centre, thanks in part to contributions from the Departments of Development and Technology and Community and Cultural Affairs. The announcement of the funding was made today by Cletus Dunn, MLA for Alberton-Miminegash.
"The community has worked hard to make this project a reality. They have long recognized the need in this area for a place for young people to gather. I am pleased that we have been able to offer assistance to the youth," says MLA Cletus Dunn.
The assistance from the two departments will help the community to renovate part of the MacRae building and create a permanent facility. A group of volunteers in the community has been providing programs for youth, but they have had to use a number of rented or borrowed facilities.
The project will receive $15,000 through the Community Development Fund and $12,500 through Community and Cultural Affairs, Recreation and Sport Facilities Development Program.
Martin MacRae, who will lease a portion of the building to the group and David Richards, Chair of the community sponsoring committee were also on hand for the announcement.
