Lord Selkirk Park will play host to the 2002 Highland Games August 2-3. The Honourable Gail A. Shea, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs, visited Lord Selkirk Park today to present $1,500 to the planning committee in support of the event.
"The Government of Prince Edward Island is pleased to support the Annual Highland Games through the Cultural Development Program," says Minister Shea. "The Highland Games has been an important part of our Island heritage since 1824 and attracts visitors from across Canada and the United States to enjoy the games and our wonderful Island hospitality."
The Highland Games include highland piping, drumming and dancing competitions as well as a number of sporting events.
"The planning committee has done a tremendous job in organizing this event, and I am sure that it will be a resounding success," says Minister Shea. "I encourage all Islanders to visit Lord Selkirk Park for the Annual Highland Games and learn more about the Scottish culture which is so much a part of our Island heritage."
The Cultural Development Program is designed to assist individuals and organizations in the development of cultural activities and cultural industries.
