The Province of Prince Edward Island is very pleased to announce that the Government's web site has been picked as the Top Government Web Site in Canada by the editor of The Government Computer Magazine, Canada's national magazine for technology management in the public sector. This was announced in Ottawa on Wednesday, September 18th, 1996, at Technology in Government Week, the largest event for government Information Technology in Canada.
Mr. Lee Hunter, the editor of the Government Computer magazine said, "The PEI site is, to my mind, clearly the best. Congratulations on putting together an outstanding site, well organized, well written, warm, intelligent and attractive." During the course of the presentation to the Conference, Mr. Hunter informed delegates that "the best of the Ten Best is, without a doubt, the Prince Edward Island government site. This is a very slick site."
Robert Morrissey, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism said, "We are delighted to have received the designation of being the top Government web site in Canada from a national magazine. The Province is committed to using our web site to promote Prince Edward Island as a place to do business, a place to visit and to provide information to Islanders and Internet users alike. Our Internet site has been visited by thousands of people. Many have commented on how much they like our site. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to work with Peter Rukavina of Digital Island, who has done a masterful job in designing our site."
"Our site has received several awards, such as Microsoft Pick of the Week, Top 5% of all web sites and PC Magazine's top 1001 web sites. We have also been named a Top Canadian Web Site, by the Canadian Internet Directory, and Canuck Site of the day," Mr. Morrissey commented.
