The Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs today announced funding for the Confederation Centre of the Arts in the amount of $300,000 annually for the next five years to assist in capital improvements to the centre.

"This funding is part of our government's commitment to support the Confederation Centre of the Arts in its redevelopment programs," says Minister MacFadyen. "The Confederation Centre of the Arts is a vital part of our community and significantly contributes to our economic development and tourism within our capital city and across the province. This centre connects each of us to the history of our province and our country while celebrating wonderful artistic talents from around the world."

Improvements to the Confederation Centre of the Arts include recent renovations to one of the busiest areas of the centre, The Confederation Centre Library, which resulted in an updated atmosphere with new paint, carpet and lighting. Other capital improvements include new heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

"On behalf of the Confederation Centre of the Arts, I thank Hon. Elmer MacFadyen and the provincial government for supporting our capital improvement project," says David MacKenzie, CEO of the Centre. "This generous contribution will allow us to make the Confederation Centre the best facility it can be, and to reach our ultimate goal of giving Islanders and visitors the highest-quality cultural experience."

The Confederation Centre is the result of a dream shared by all Canadians to create a place where the country's history and many cultures can be celebrated, and the talents of its citizens nurtured and showcased.

Programming at the Confederation Centre of the Arts continues to touch on the many different cultures within Canada to promote an understanding of the nation's differences and mutual accomplishments.
