Get Caught Reading during Canadian Library Month

* Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]
Islanders are encouraged to “get caught” reading in public places during Canadian Library Month to help celebrate the important role libraries play in promoting literacy and serving communities.

Librarians across the province will be on the lookout for Islanders making reading a part of their daily lives, inside and outside the library, and handing out prizes to people they catch reading in public. Photos of those caught reading and clues about the locations where library employees will be on the lookout for readers will be posted on the Prince Edward Island Public Library Service’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Canadian Library Month is held each October. This year’s theme, Your Library, a Place Unbound, highlights how libraries constantly evolve to meet the needs of an information-driven society by introducing new ideas, telling new stories, and exploring the world around us.

More than 800,000 books, CDs and audio-books are circulated annually from the Prince Edward Island Public Library Service’s 26 branches. Libraries are key partners in supporting literacy and are leaders in providing Canadians with access to information in a variety of formats.

A list of activities taking place during Canadian Library Month is available at www.library.pe.ca or at the local branches.
