A $50,000 Leadership Grant will help further develop the West Prince Sports and Recreation Council, says Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram.
“The West Prince Sports and Recreation Council have decided to extend their boundaries to cover the western region from Miscouche to North Cape,” said Minister Bertram. “We are pleased to provide this Leadership Grant, which will help in the development of new programs and the expansion of their current initiatives.”
The West Prince Sports and Recreation Council is one of the Island’s regional sports and recreational councils. Their mission is to encourage all citizens to participate in, and benefit from, sport and physical activity within a positive supportive environment. They offer many initiatives including: after school programs, Girls in Motion, backyard day camps, a Kids Active Fund, snowshoeing, community coaching programs, Soccer and baseball leagues, cross country skiing and cycling.
“We are so pleased to receive this funding and to be able to continue to provide leadership in sport development, recreation and physical activity for the western region of the province. This assistance will go a long way to ensure programming is continued and increased so our communities and citizens will benefit,” said Council President, Sharon Horne.
The Leadership Grant is part of the province’s Community Recreation Support Program (CRSP), a program designed to support recreational facilities, leadership and projects that will enable Islanders to enjoy an active lifestyle. This fiscal year, the Department of Health and Wellness provided financial support to 34 projects through CRSP, a total provincial investment of $271,500.
