Nine trustees will be elected to the French Language School Board on election day, Monday, May 27, 1996.
Nomination papers for those persons wishing to run as candidates for election to the French Language School Board must be filed with the Returning Officers in each electoral zone by 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 1996.
Prince Edward Island Chief Electoral Officer Merrill Wigginton said today that to be eligible to offer as a candidate for election to the French Language School Board, a person must be a Canadian citizen eighteen years or older on election day, must have resided in the school unit for at least six months prior to election day and must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
1. The candidate must be the parent of a student who is receiving French first language instruction in the province, or
2. The candidate must be eligible to have a child receive French first language instruction, or
3. The candidate would be eligible to have a child receive French first language instruction if the candidate had a child.

Mr. Wigginton said, ‘Prince Edward Island has been divided into five electoral zones for the purpose of electing trustees to the French Language School Board. Four trustees will be elected from zone 1, one trustee each from zones 2, 3 and 4 and two trustees will be elected from zone 5 for a total of nine trustees.
‘To be eligible to vote in the election for trustees in the French Language School Board, a person must be eighteen years of age or older on election day, be a Canadian citizen and have been a resident of the school unit for at least six months prior to election day. In addition the voter must meet at least one of the following qualifications;
1. The voter must be the parent of a student who is receiving French first language instruction in the province, or
2. The voter must be eligible to have a child receive French first language instruction, or
3. The voter would be eligible to have a child receive French first language instruction if the voter had a child.'
A complete list of the polling locations in all five electoral zones in the French Language School Board will be published in the daily newspapers of the province. The hours of voting on election day, Monday, May 27 will be from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m.
